A rare and unique opportunity to view at close hand ongoing sensitive brickwork repairs, including the entire rebuilding of the parapet and cornice being undertaken as part of extensive repair works taking place to the fa\u00e7ade of Farnham Museum (aka Wilmer House) a Grade I listed building, dating to 1718, built for local hop merchant John Thorne and now owned by Waverley Borough Council. The entire frontage of the building is constructed in rubbed brick and was described by architectural historian Nathanial Lloyd \u201cperhaps the most beautiful example extant of the Doric order interpreted in brick.\u201d There are some good sections of panelling internally as part of the museum which has a slightly unusual plan form.<\/p>\n

This event with Neil England\u00a0https:\/\/www.heritagebuildingadvisors.co.uk\/<\/a>\u00a0will be held at the Regency Town House in Hove.<\/p>\n

Aided with real world exemplar photos spanning 50+ years working on these structures. We will deal with the period from the 1780s to the 1830s \u2013 an era that marked a seminal moment in the architectural history of our country. It was a complex period of development, with many new materials becoming available. It is a particularly intriguing time to explore and understand methods of building.<\/p>\n

Over two days the course delves into the world of the contractors and skilled craftsmen of the age.<\/p>\n

We will examine how rapid Georgian construction was achieved, the skills, availability of materials, and much more,<\/p>\n

The house and No 10 basement will also be used to clarify enabling future analysis and reparation guidance to be knowledge driven. Demonstrations by John Zielinski are included.<\/p>\n

Join us on the third run of our outreach programme Architecture Style Walks. Five fun, engaging walks will explore key buildings of each style in London. You\u2019ll learn the context in which they were built and hear interesting facts and anecdotes you can share with your friends in the pub later. The walks are very much aimed at the general public and will be repeated several times a year.<\/p>\n

Explore London\u2019s Modernist architecture with architect and\u00a0C20<\/span>\u00a0Trustee Sarah Jackson. Starting at Exmouth Market, we’ll hear about the Mount Pleasant Post Office before moving to see the Finsbury Health Centre, an icon of early British Modernism. Walking through a wild variety of estates, we\u2019ll learn more about postwar planning before reaching the gold standard of housing design \u2013 Golden Lane Estate. The tour will finish at the former Museum of London on London Wall.<\/p>\n

Sarah Jackson is an architect, heritage consultant and\u00a0C20<\/span>\u00a0Trustee. She\u2019s a Golden Key Academy alumni and runs walks for Open City.<\/p>\n
