Over ten years on from its completion in 2015, architect Gary Butler will talk about the project to conserve and regenerate the grade II* listed Master’s House as a hub of social and cultural life in Ledbury.<\/p>\n

Gary will lead a tour, and talk about the conservation approach to the project, which adopted the principle that the extraordinary medieval fabric was the most significant element of the building.<\/p>\n

A rare and unique opportunity to view at close hand ongoing sensitive brickwork repairs, including the entire rebuilding of the parapet and cornice being undertaken as part of extensive repair works taking place to the fa\u00e7ade of Farnham Museum (aka Wilmer House) a Grade I listed building, dating to 1718, built for local hop merchant John Thorne and now owned by Waverley Borough Council. The entire frontage of the building is constructed in rubbed brick and was described by architectural historian Nathanial Lloyd \u201cperhaps the most beautiful example extant of the Doric order interpreted in brick.\u201d There are some good sections of panelling internally as part of the museum which has a slightly unusual plan form.<\/p>\n

We have the opportunity for 10 members to join us from 11am on Thursday 16th July at Holy Trinity Church, Hurdsfield as stone repairs to the tower and pinnacles are underway.<\/p>\n

With huge thanks to Mark Perace, you can enjoy a detailed discussion about the specification and execution of the repairs and understand how these works play part in the wider management and upkeep of the building.<\/p>\n

Tea and coffee to be kindly provided by Reverend James Gibson from the Church.<\/p>\n

An exciting opportunity to see conservation in action as the National Slate Museum undergoes a significant redevelopment project.<\/p>\n

Join the IHBC Wales branch, accompanied by Conservation Architect Elinor Gray-Williams and contractor MPH for a tour of conservation works at the National Slate Museum as it undergoes significant redevelopment works.<\/p>\n

We will explore how decisions have been made to balance the conservation of the 19th Century workshops, several of which still contain historic machinery and tools, with telling the story of the international slate industry. Discussions will include how the project has developed with the input of historic environment professionals to take full account of the site’s grade 1 Listing, Scheduled Monument status, and inclusion in the World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n

NB: The tour will take place on a live site. Participants must wear sturdy site boots. High vis and hard hats will be available to borrow but feel free to bring your own.<\/p>\n
