{"id":6345,"date":"2017-04-13T15:08:47","date_gmt":"2017-04-13T14:08:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/events\/?p=6345"},"modified":"2017-04-13T15:08:47","modified_gmt":"2017-04-13T14:08:47","slug":"scottish-civic-trust-annual-lecture-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/events200826230.live-website.com\/?p=6345","title":{"rendered":"Scottish Civic Trust Annual Lecture 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>25 April 2017<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Edinburgh<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ox-a6f6d737bd-MsoNormal\"><strong>MERCHANT CITY,<\/strong>\u00a0<wbr \/>one of Glasgow&#8217;s most historic areas has experienced many changes in its time, so much so that on more than one occasion it almost disappeared from the face of the earth.\u00a0<wbr \/> Its renaissance in more recent years has become part of the city&#8217;s folklore &#8211; but the story is not over yet!\u00a0<wbr \/>We will explore how we arrived at the present, and look at some of the issues for the future.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"ox-a6f6d737bd-MsoNormal\">This lecture by architect and historian David Martin is part of a series of events which celebrate, in 2017,\u00a0<wbr \/> the 50th anniversary of\u00a0<wbr \/> both the inaugural meeting of the Scottish Civic Trust and the passing of the Civic Amenities Act 1967 which introduced the concept of conservation areas.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"ox-a6f6d737bd-MsoNormal\"><strong>DAVID MARTIN<\/strong>\u00a0<wbr \/>was born and brought up in Glasgow, where he graduated in architecture in 1972.\u00a0<wbr \/>After a period in London working for the Historic Buildings Division of Greater London Council, he returned to Glasgow to take up a post in the Planning Department there.\u00a0<wbr \/> He functioned as the city&#8217;s Building Conservation Officer for twenty years before taking early retirement in 1999, and since then has taught part time at various colleges and universities in the West of Scotland.\u00a0<wbr \/> He is currently working on a series of books.<\/p>\n<p>Join us from 5.30pm for a glass of wine.
