{"id":6513,"date":"2017-07-20T10:30:54","date_gmt":"2017-07-20T09:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/events\/?p=6513"},"modified":"2017-07-18T11:06:31","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T10:06:31","slug":"monuments-in-ruins-ruins-as-monuments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/events200826230.live-website.com\/?p=6513","title":{"rendered":"Monuments in Ruins \u2013 Ruins as Monuments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>22\u201324 September 2017<br \/>\nElefsina, Greece<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>4th HMO International HerMa Conference<\/strong>\u00a0on Heritage Management will contribute to this largely absent debate by reconsidering ruins\u00a0<em>qua<\/em>\u00a0physical remains, for their evocative potential, and in particular to provide a philosophy to inform heritage management at all kinds of scales: from museum objects to historical buildings, archaeological sites to historical landscapes.<\/p>\n<p>The main subjects raised will revolve around the following sorts of concerns:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>RUINS OF WHAT\/AS WHAT<\/strong>? \u2014 matters of identity, the relation between parts and wholes, as well as the \u2018authenticity\u2019 of restored monuments in relation to what remains of their original material substance \u2026 and other ruinous topics. Theoretical and philosophical contributions are most welcome in this session.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RUINS FOR WHAT\/WHERE<\/strong>? \u2014 the purposes, criteria, hierarchies and decision making in the preservation of ruinous monuments, through case studies of theory and of practice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RUINS FOR WHOM<\/strong>? \u2014 the different approaches and desires of the general public and the experts: the various empathies expressed (or not) towards ruins, ruins of one\u2019s own or another\u2019s culture, the relation of the part to the whole and management strategies devised to accentuate, remedy, mitigate or even celebrate the fragmented condition of the archetypal ruin.
