In 2010 European legislation to lower the content of Volatile Organic Compounds in paints came into force, resulting in huge changes to the formulation of solvent based paints, varnishes and glazes – this will have major, long-term and far-reaching effects on the future maintenance and conservation of historic buildings. The morning session of our conference this year will:
Examine the on-going paint trials being conducted by the Paint Research Association which we are jointly sponsoring
Discuss the issues which are already appearing as a result of the 2010 legislation…in a ‘search for clarity’
The afternoon session will cover a wide variety of recent conservation projects with an emphasis on decorative painted surfaces and traditional paint. There will be a tour of this fascinating museum and an opportunity to see items from the archives of the Order of St John which are not usually on public display.
