Haggerston School, London
Haggerston School was designed by Erno Goldfinger in 1962 and opened in 1966 as a 600 place girls school. In 2009 it joined the Building Schools for the Future programme, and has now converted to a co-educational school with an extra 250 places. A new fourth teaching block has been constructed, and areas of the main teaching block adapted to more informal, project-based learning for groups of 90 children. John Allan and Fiona Lamb of Avanti Architects will present aspects of the project with Dr Jane Keeley, Headteacher at Haggerston School.

Lignon Housing Complex, Geneva
Built between 1962 and 1971 the spectacular post-war megastructure of Lignon (architects: Addor, Julliard, Payot, Bolliger), located just outside Geneva, has been awarded a ‘Grand Prix’ Laureate in the 2013 EU Awards for Cultural Heritage. Franz Graf, who led a team from the EPFL will present their research in energy efficiency and the methodology for upgrading the curtain wall. Their study addresses the material and economic issues of thermal loss and gain in lightweight construction while also maintaining the architectural and social value of the buildings.
