Hermiston Quay

The National Trust for Scotland’s portfolio includes a number of iconic castles, many with medieval origins and important late Renaissance and Victorian modifications. Much archaeological work has been undertaken in recent years at the Trust’s north-east castles, including geophysical survey, excavation, building recording and analysis, and architectural/art historical research. A remarkable amount of new information is emerging from this work, often changing traditional understandings of the development of these buildings and their landscape settings. Some of the results of two major, ongoing projects will be presented as one of a series of public NTS Conservation Seminars
