High quality, sensitive design can enhance historic buildings – extending their life and fitting them for new uses. One of the core principles of the SPAB is that new work should express current needs in a contemporary language. Using case studies by leading architects, this one day seminar will explore contrasting approaches to what makes for good contemporary design in historic contexts.
This event is part of the relaunch of the Society’s Philip Webb Award, a design competition for Part II architectural students and recent graduates. This award, given in honour of the SPAB co-founder – with William Morris – architect Philip Webb, returns in 2015 to coincide with the centenary of his death.
