Culture and Heritage Capital Programme: Culture and Heritage Capital: putting theory into practice

3 November - 09:30 - 5 November - 13:30
Free

Join us for three mornings (from 09.30 – 13.30hrs.) of panel discussions, technical teach-ins and workshops on the Culture and Heritage Capital (CHC) Programme. Sessions will provide an overview of frameworks, tools and methods used to measure and value the impact of the creative industries, culture and heritage sectors to better understand value for money and place-based impacts.

In line with the new model of government, as set out in the Rewiring the State paper, outputs of the CHC Programme will be used to support local leaders to better measure and articulate the value of these sectors to support good growth in every part of the country, and economic progress that goes hand in hand with social progress.

This event marks an important transition from developing the Culture and Heritage Capital framework, as set out in the 2024 publication Embedding a Culture and Heritage Capital Approach, to supporting its practical application across government and the wider creative, cultural and heritage sectors.

This event is run by the Culture and Heritage Capital Programme, a collaboration led by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports (DCMS) and the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) in partnership with the Arts Council England, the British Film Institute, Historic England, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Bringing together policymakers, analysts, practitioners and international experts from across government, academia, and the culture and heritage sectors, participants will gain:

  • An understanding of the Culture and Heritage Capital framework, and its application in public policy
  • Practical approaches for incorporating culture and heritage within policy appraisal and evaluations to inform national and place-based investment decisions
  • Insights from UK and international leaders applying Culture and Heritage Capital methods
  • Opportunities to shape the future development and adoption of the programme.

This will also be a key opportunity for stakeholders to provide feedback and help us shape the programme moving forward.

The programme also supports delivery of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s 2026 Areas of Research Interest by strengthening the evidence base for understanding the contribution of culture and heritage to growth, place, resilience and public value.
