The 2014 Friday-Saturday Ironbridge Weekend is based at the historic limeworks at Llanymynech in Shropshire near the Welsh border, with its Hoffman-style kiln, incline, quarry, canal and railway. All buildings constructed before the mid-19th century would have used lime for mortar, render, plaster and limewash because lime allows buildings to ‘breathe’. If you live in, work in or look after an old property, using cement for repairs will damage the fabric of the building, so this is your chance to get to understand the lime cycle, lime mixing…
