The future for policy on biodiversity and natural capital in the UK: priorities, practicalities and targets

Timed to follow the planned publication of the European Union’s ‘Fitness Check’ on key conservation directives in early 2016, this seminar will provide a timely opportunity to assess progress made towards meeting the UK’s Biodiversity 2020 targets.

Delegates are expected to assess Government’s plans in this area, such as the new ‘Open Environment’ initiative, announced in a speech delivered by the Environment Secretary, that aims to improve the use of data and technology in environmental monitoring and will be developed over the next 12 months.

They will also consider the next phase of the Natural Capital Committee’s work, following the manifesto commitment to extend its life to the end of the current Parliament and to develop a ‘25 Year Plan’ to restore UK Biodiversity. more…
